4 Types of Dads in Petaling Jaya and the Food They'd Actually Enjoy

Shopping for Dad can be surprisingly difficult. Ask him what he wants and you'll probably get the same answer every year: "Nothing." But while dads may not always know what gifts they want, most of them definitely know what food they enjoy. This Father's Day of 2026, we thought it'd be fun to look at four common types of dads and the meals they'd probably be happiest eating.

1. The working dad

His weekdays are packed with meetings, deadlines and long commutes. Lunch is often whatever is quickest, easiest or closest to the office. Sometimes he even skips meals entirely because he's too busy. What would he actually enjoy?

The best part isn't necessarily the food itself. It's not having to think about what to eat every day.

2. The retired dad

Retirement doesn't mean slowing down. Many retired dads are busier than ever. They're helping around the house, running errands, meeting friends or spending time with grandchildren. So, these dads would really enjoy familiar home-cooked meals. Something that tastes close to home but is still balanced. Food is more than fuel to these retired dads. It's part of their daily routine and something they genuinely look forward to.

3. The foodie dad

This dad loves trying new things. He's always the first to suggest a new restaurant, send food recommendations in the family group chat or talk about a meal he enjoyed weeks ago. What he'd actually enjoy?

The foodie dad doesn't necessarily want fancy food. He wants interesting food. The kind of meal that makes him say, "I've never tried this before."

4. The health-conscious dad

Whether he's counting steps, watching his sugar intake or trying to eat more balanced meals, this dad pays attention to what goes on his plate. He'd really love a balanced homemade meal of lean proteins, plenty steamed vegetables and very little oil. For him, good food isn't about restriction. It's about feeling good and maintaining a routine he can stick to.

No matter which category your dad falls into, there's one thing many dads share. They rarely ask for much. Most dads aren't looking for extravagant gifts or grand gestures. They're usually happiest with simple things done well. A good meal. Time with family. One less thing to worry about after a long day. Sometimes, that's exactly what makes homemade food such a meaningful gift.
