5 Homemade Meals I Ate This Week in PJ

I was back in PJ for a little vacay while working remotely, and decided to finally try something I’ve always talked about but never actually did. I work with home chefs around Klang Valley, but I’ve never committed to eating only their meals for a full week. So I gave the meal plan a proper go. No takeaway, no overthinking. Just homemade meals delivered daily.

1. A Chinese bento for lunch

Braised Lion’s Head Meatball, Stir-Fried Vegetables, Beancurd in Oyster Sauce, Rice This felt like a proper home meal straight away. The meatballs were soft, flavourful, and surprisingly filling. It took me 3-4 bites to finish just one meatball! The vegetables and beancurd were lighter and simple, which made everything feel balanced instead of overwhelming. It’s the kind of meal that doesn’t try too hard but still hits the spot.

2. A Chinese dinner for two

BBQ Baked Chicken, Fu Yong Omelette, Stir-Fried Fu Yu Potato Leaves, Rice This one felt especially comforting. The kind of dinner you’d expect to come home to. Everything was fresh, slightly warm and familiar, and the portions were generous. Nothing felt overly oily or heavy, just very steady, everyday food. It was perfect for my friend and I especially after we were done with a long day of work.

3. A Western box for lunch

Tomato Basil Pesto Pasta with Chicken This was a nice change from the usual rice meals. The sauce was rich and flavourful, and they were generous with it too. The chicken wasn’t dry or bland, which made the whole dish feel complete. It still had that homemade feel despite being something a bit more western.

4. A Japanese box for dinner

Kinoko Gohan with Pickle and Chikin Menchi This one leaned more on the comforting side but it was still unique compared to the rest of the week. Simple, lighter flavours, but still satisfying. It felt like something you’d eat when you want something easy and warm after a long day. Nothing complicated, just done well.

5. A North Indian box for lunch

North Indian Chicken Biryani with Mint Chutney This one stood out immediately. Very aromatic, rich in flavour, and the portion was quite generous. The mint chutney added a fresh contrast that tied everything together. It felt like a complete, well-thought-out meal rather than just a quick lunch.

You know what the best part of the meal plan was? I didn’t have to think about my food at all. No “what should I eat today?” No last-minute takeaway decisions No settling for something just because it’s convenient It was just sorted. And even though everything was planned out, it didn’t feel repetitive. The meals rotated and had enough variety to keep things interesting.
